Cornelius Keating, SCN

Cornelius Keating, SCN, 95, a native of Boston, Mass., died at Nazareth Home, Louisville, Ky. on October 25, 2008. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 77 years.

Sister Cornelius served in the apostolate of elementary and secondary education as teacher and principal in Kentucky, Ohio, Maryland, Virginia and Massachusetts for 58 years.

Survivors include: a niece, Patricia Norton, SCN, of West Roxbury, Mass.; a nephew, Peter Norton of South Boston, Mass.; and her Sisters in the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.

Barbara Hornbeck, SCN

Barbara Hornbeck, SCN, formerly Sister Mary Josepha Hornbeck, 69, a native of Owensboro, Ky., died at Nazareth Home, Louisville, Ky., on October 25, 2008. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 51 years.

Sister Barbara served in the apostolate of health care as a nurse in Kentucky and Ohio for 26 years.

Survivors include two sisters: Betsy H. Brodnax of Gartland, Texas; and Mary Dolores Hornbeck, CP, of St. Joseph Monastery, Whitesville, Ky.; and her Sisters in the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.

Mary Jane Hutchins, SCN

Mary Jane Hutchins, SCN, age 89, died at Nazareth Home, Louisville, Ky., on October 9, 2008. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 70 years,

Sister served in the apostolate of elementary education in Kentucky, Ohio and Louisiana for 26 years and later in art education in Arizona and Kentucky. Sister Mary Jane taught art in Kentucky at Holy Family School, Louisville, from 1974-79 and at St. Helen School, Shively, from 1974-76 and also served at Our Lady of Peace Hospital, as art therapist from 1976-85. She served in personal family ministry in Nelson County, Ky., and as adult art instructor at the Motherhouse, Nazareth, from 1985-95. Sister Mary Jane worked at the Nelson County Library, Bardstown, in genealogy research from 1990-2006 and at the same time, served as instructor in art at the Motherhouse from 1991-2006 when she became a resident at Nazareth Home, Louisville.

Survivors include: five brothers: William Alfred Hutchins of Bardstown, Ky.; Gilbert V. Hutchins of Gravel Switch, Ky.; James Paul Hutchins of Tucson, Ariz.; Joseph M. Hutchins of Louisville, Ky. and J. Leo Hutchins of Palm Bay, Fla; three sisters, Ann E. Cecil and Pearl Durbin of New Haven, Ky.; and Mary Jane Puckett of Tony, Ala.; and her Sisters in the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.

Rita Englert, SCN

Rita Englert, SCN, formerly Sister Joseph Rita Englert, 90, a native of Paducah, Ky., died at Nazareth Home, Louisville, Ky., on October 7, 2008. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 74 years.

Sister Rita entered the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth September 24, 1934, and made First Vows on March 25, 1936. She ministered in the apostolate of elementary education in Kentucky, Maryland, Tennessee and Ohio for 41 years. Sister Rita was a driver for the Sisters at Nazareth Home from 1977-82. Sister worked in Community Service at Nazareth Home/Maria Hall from 1982-98, and then became a resident in that facility.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, and her Sisters in the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.
